A BLXCR Community Business Spotlight
Sometimes entrepreneurship begins with a simple decision: believe in your ability, take a chance on yourself, and turn a talent into something tangible.
Inside Iverson Mall in Temple Hills, Maryland, BLXCR had an opportunity to speak with Brother Antoine, owner and chef of Pro Cakes, a local business celebrating a decade of serving customers throughout the community.
Brother Antoine said Pro Cakes has been going strong since 2016. Reaching the 10-year mark represents more than simply keeping the doors open. It reflects consistency, lessons learned, relationships built with customers, and the determination required to sustain an independent business.
When asked what inspired him to choose entrepreneurship, Brother Antoine pointed to his desire to explore what he could accomplish through his craft.

“I just wanted to be creative and push the limits of what I could do. I’m glad that I chose this pathway.”
That decision developed into a business specializing in cakes, cupcakes and cookies for occasions ranging from weddings and birthdays to baby showers and other celebrations.
Brother Antoine’s journey also provides a simple example of how a personal skill can become a source of ownership. Every neighborhood business has a beginning, and Pro Cakes demonstrates what can happen when an idea is followed by years of commitment to the work.
Today, Pro Cakes operates at two Prince George’s County locations. Customers can visit the shop inside Iverson Mall in Temple Hills, Maryland, next to Great Cookie, or the second location at 3660 St. Barnabas Road in Suitland, Maryland.

Pro Cakes can also be found on Instagram at @Pro_Cakes or contacted by email at ProCakes2012@gmail.com.
For BLXCR, stories such as Brother Antoine’s are important because grassroots reporting should include the people building businesses right where we live. Their stories give us an opportunity to know who is providing services in our neighborhoods and where our support can make a direct impact.
After 10 years, Pro Cakes stands as a reminder that a business can begin with something as simple as a skill, an idea and the willingness to put in the work.
One Village. One Fight.
